Don’t Be Afraid to Fail – Quick Start Challenge

This post is in relation to my involvement in The Quick Start Challenge 2015.  Our Week 1 challenge was to get a blog launched and make a post in relation to the challenge.  I created this blog in preparation for the challenge and have now added this new Video Post.  The ‘About Me’ page is coming up next [Edited: July 13th, 2015] About me page has now been added..

Don't Be Afraid to Fail - Quick Start Challenge

  • Hey Kevin,

What a great video! You have a really nice manner on camera – an absolute natural, even though you may not have felt that way to begin with. 🙂

You see, this is one of the key components to success – taking action and just getting things done! It doesn’t matter if things aren’t perfect, it doesn’t matter if you’re a beginner, it doesn’t matter if you feel silly. Taking action and just marching forwards are essential to breaking through your barriers, learning, gaining experience and growing your confidence.

I wish you and everyone else all the best with the QSC. I know that if you simply follow the steps, you WILL get results. I look forward to seeing your progress! 🙂

P.S. A plugin I’d recommend for your blog is CommentLuv. There’s a free version and a paid version, but the free version will do perfectly fine to begin with. This helps both your commenters and you yourself leave a link to a specific blog post when commenting. This ‘give and take’ arrangement can also work as a strong incentive for people to comment on your blog.

    • Kevin Barham says:

      Hi Glenn

Thanks so much for your kind words. Being on camera really didn’t feel natural at first but the more I’m doing it the better it gets and, most importantly, I’m really enjoying it 🙂

For as long as I have been attempting to build my online business I have always heard (and understood) that it is about taking massive action but I have always managed to let other tasks get in the way. It’s crazy!

Fortunately there is something in Dean Holland’s delivery of the Quick Start Challenge that is making the process much easier this time. I think it is down to the accountability within the FB group – Whatever it is, I’ve no intention of stopping now 🙂

I’ll check out the CommentLuv wordpress plugin that you mentioned. I saw it working on your blog and I was certainly impressed. Thank you.

  • From the blogroll it look like there were over 350 of us that actually made it this far. I am looking forward to seeing how we progress over the next 3 weeks, especially the part that wants us to write a good post every day. And as for doing a video? still it looks like you are off to a good start here.

    • Kevin Barham says:

      Hey Simon
      Thanks for stopping by.

I’m really enjoying the Quick Start Challenge and agree, it will be interesting to see how we all progress. I’m absolutely determined to stay focused and see it through to the end.

The quality content that Dean Holland is sharing really does make sense to me and combined with the Facebook Group, adds a feel of accountability that I haven’t experience before.

I was obviously pleased when Dean said that the challenge this week was to post a video 🙂 Seeing as I have already started doing this I’m thinking of ‘challenging’ myself a little more by doing something that I haven’t done publicly to date… Green Screen! Not sure how it will go but it’ll fun for sure.

I just checked out your blog post on “How To Stay Focused For Success”. What you say about ‘real life’ getting in the way has certainly been something that I have struggled with. You are so right about distractions. I find setting a timer for 50 minutes at a time helps me stay focused.

You come across extremely well on video Kevin – you would do really well as a video marketer, I think people would trust you.

I have often thought that video is the thing which could differentiate our efforts from other people, just simply because so many people don’t want to record their own. Video immediately conveys a personal impression of us, and has the potential to build fantastic relationships with our readers.

I have dabbled in video and recorded a few things, and I’m glad that the QSC is pushing this – it could really help us stand out, and once the equipment is set up it doesn’t take long to knock something out – I’m sure we will get quicker at producing decent content too.

Well done on your extremely confident start to this journey.

    • Kevin Barham says:

      Hey Ant

Thanks for your very kind words. As Dean said, we need to try to get people to Know, Like & Trust us and I agree with you that video can help us achieve that in the shortest possible time frame.

I’m really enjoying working with video and am just working on my first Green Screen attempt for the week 2 challenge. If it works, I’ll be posting it soon 🙂

    Hi Kevin,
I just want to tell you that your “Don’t be affraid to fail” post was very inspiring not just with the main message that is in the title but for creating the “We/Us” for all of us challengers in QSC 2015.
It’s obvious that you have advantage over the rest of us, however, we will use it to our advantage 🙂 . Best of luck and talk soon…

    • Kevin Barham says:

Hi Rino! Thanks for stopping by.
I’m so pleased that my message resonates with you 🙂

You’re right that I have a little advantage with my background but, let that advantage be yours… If you think I can help you out, please drop me a line via my support desk link above. If I can, I will.

      Thanks Richard.
I really do want us all to stick at it. I’ve failed to stay on track with things in the past – but I’m not going to fail on this one.

Hi, Kevin, I love your experience. You can’t win the game if you don’t try it. 🙂 Have fun!

  • Annette says:

Kevin, i love your video… you are doing that really professional.
Keep going and stay focused !!!
I m looking forward to read and see more about you 🙂

I wish you all the best !!!

    • Kevin Barham says:

      Many Thanks Annette
It’s great to be a part of a group of so many people who are actually taking action.

  • Nicolas says:

    Hi Kevin,
I’m pretty impress with your video. I’m talking about the one on the other post. This green screen method made me smile. I really thought for a sec that you were a news anchor!!!

About this one above, I can really relate to it. I have been searching for a way to make money online for a while and I kept up not completing the programs I purchased. Coz like you said I was always attracted to the new shiny object coming….
Its not easy to resist when you receive tons of ”I have found the secret for you” kind of emails everyday.

So I decided to change that when the QSC has started. I realize that i had to focus one time in my life to expect something in return. Im pretty damm happy about my decision and I really enjoy taking action inside this Quick start challenge.

So great job again and I will look forward to see your success threw this journey

    Regards 🙂

    • Kevin Barham says:

Hi Nicolas – “A News Anchor”?? I like that – Thank you 🙂
Yep – That dreaded SOS – It seems to be the number one cause as to why we all fail to make progress. I’m really pleased that there are so many action-takers in this group.
      Good luck for Week3

  • Roberto says:

Great Video Kevin. I can see that you started to love doing those videos now 🙂 I am glad for you, because I am sure you will have good success with video marketing. About the emails… you are so right. A few month’s ago I un-subscribed to all of them, it took me over 3 weeks lol… but the relief I got after was worth the time invested. Keep focused Kevin, you are on the right track now…!

    • Kevin Barham says:

Thanks for your words of encouragement Roberto
I’m glad you had the same revelation about all the lists! You are on the same right track too 🙂
      Good luck

  • Hi Kevin

Already there’s lots of excellent information here. We are lucky to have you in our Facebook Group. For most of us, it’s the technical stuff that is so bewildering. Your video is excellent, Kevin. I’ve also subscribed to your list, as I’m sure you will provide us with very good material. Thank you Kevin.

    • Kevin Barham says:

Hi Lauretta – I appreciate your comments
Do give me a shout if you feel I can assist you with anything 🙂

  • Shaneman says:

    Hi Kevin,

Excellent video, I don`t think their were any ums or aahs either which is fantastic.

Just like you – I am also guilty of buying things that I still have not looked at or used, however I do plan on getting round to them.

I think as we all get into a routine where we focus on taking action, it is probably a good idea to also set aside a specific time for learning, by going over a product or course that we previously bought and then apply that to our business to make it even better.

    • Kevin Barham says:

      Thanks for stopping by Shaneman!
Good idea on going over previously purchased courses – Although I have some that are so old the techniques are out of date! LOL
